Abstract math question: How are equations made? --

OpenStudy (jadedry):

Somewhat random, but I was doing some chemistry the other day when I was wondering just /how/ people come up with the equations they do. My theory is that (most) start off with experiments, take the raw data. Convert it into some "readable" math form if they are able : "functions, equations, graphs etc)" and eventually come up with an equation. Alternatively, they take existing equations, equate the variables, ad "mix n' match" until they end up with an entirely new equation. What do you think? More over, am I completely wrong or somewhere in the ballpark?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

just check out their suggestions @ https://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20121129114035AAEvXwZ @Jadedry

OpenStudy (baru):

yep I agree with you, for instance I guess newton must have guessed the laws of motion from observation, and then substantiated by experiments...

@Koikkara Thanks for the link! c: @baru Yeah! Not to mention that the apple played a big part in his discoveries haha.

OpenStudy (baru):

just so you know, the apple thing is an unverified story ;)

OpenStudy (jadedry):

@baru I know, but it's such a cute tidbit I almost refuse to believe it wasn't real haha.
