Heart hurting after drinking coffee? I consume an average of two to three cups of coffee daily, with cream, but lately my heart has felt heavy and almost tight after/during drinking coffee. Any ideas on what the correlation is between the hurting heart and coffee?
[I am 17, weigh 118, exercise daily, and eat healthy :) There is a history of heart attack and high cholesterol in my family though...o.o]
Probably no correlation between coffee drinking and chest pain. It may just be extra-muscular aches. However, it could quite possibly be something else. If you are worried, the best idea would be to consult a doctor.
Why don't you try not drinking coffee and see if the symptoms persist. That is, if you have enough discipline to survive the withdrawal effects. It's a little reckless to assume that there is NO correlation between what your heart is feeling and the effects of a power stimulant. Pay attention to your body, if you feel like something is wrong (and you don't have history of worrying too much) then something probably is wrong. Game plan: take a week or so away from caffeine, see you how feel. If you still have weird sensations, see a doctor asap. good luck
^ thanks so much to both of you. Yeah, i'm trying a week off coffee (*tear). I talked to my first aid professor today and he said: The coffee makes you dehydrate, as well as makes your heart work faster/harder. Which explains why the heart begins to hurt. To fix it, one must drink a ton of water for every cup of coffee and perhaps switch to lighter or decaf coffee. :)
Feeling any better so far? @Babynini
Aw, thank you for asking! I lasted without coffee for 2 and a bit days heh. But then I only drank one cup of coffee a day and drank two glasses of water for each cup of coffee :) that seems to work. My heart still hurts at times, but only when I forget to counter the coffee with water.
