What is your favorite math book?

OpenStudy (empty):

Partial Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers by Stanley J. Farlow

OpenStudy (empty):

Actually, come to think of it, my second favorite: Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences by Mary Boas Although I guess neither of these are really 'hardcore math' books.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

My all time favorite books on math are I-XII ncert textbooks http://ncert.nic.in/ncerts/textbook/textbook.htm?demh1=7-14 there is also euclid elements http://aleph0.clarku.edu/~djoyce/elements/bookIII/bookIII.html

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Woah some of these are pretty cool...could make a kid curious

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

That^ is the purpose!

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Euclid's Elements made humanity curious.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

That's the main purpose of ncert textbooks. You may select the class/subject from the dropdown menus located at top : |dw:1447057306200:dw|

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Yeah first thing I did haha, but nothing was showing

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

after selecting, you need to press "Go" button too :)

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

No I mean there was nothing to select, just blank

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Oh nvm..I got it

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Are most of them in hindi?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you can choose the language just select the one in english...

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

I did haha but most are in hindi >.<

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if it is in hindi, it will also be in english too..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it takes some time to get used to the site...

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

I got it

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Thanks, great site

imqwerty (imqwerty):

https://projecteuler.net/archives :) its not a book but i thought to share

OpenStudy (lochana):

Yes. programmers love that site:)

imqwerty (imqwerty):

yes :)

+1, The Gospel of Mary |dw:1447059117537:dw|

OpenStudy (baru):

anybody know any books on the lives of mathematicians/scientists thats not too mathsy? i've read The man who knew infinity-Robert Kanigal (Srinivasa Ramanujan)

OpenStudy (willie579):

My favorite Math book is any Math book. :)

OpenStudy (empty):

Hahaha you are either really patient and accepting or you haven't read any bad math books xD

Directrix (directrix):

Mathematics: From the Birth of Numbers by Jan Gullberg

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

Análisis matemático II Ivorra.

OpenStudy (jango_in_dtown):

can anyone provide me the pdf of the following two books please? 1) Non-linear differential equations and dynamical systems-F. Verhulst 2) Partial Differential Equations : Methods and Applications- Robert C Mc. Owens

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

ya http://amazon.com

OpenStudy (jango_in_dtown):

@nincompoop its not there

OpenStudy (jango_in_dtown):

@ganeshie8 do you have the pdfs?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it is tough to find a pdf online if the book is still in printing il try and let you know :)

OpenStudy (jango_in_dtown):

ok.:)

OpenStudy (dayakar):

speed mathematics by BILL HANDLEY

OpenStudy (dayakar):

THE TRACHTENBERG SPEED SYSTEM OF BASIC MATHEMATICS by anncutler and rudolphMcShane

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

I believe forcing speed upon students ruins math.

OpenStudy (dayakar):

these books gi

OpenStudy (dayakar):

these books gives u technique ,spontaneity to do maths, not rote learning methods

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Speed only comes from "streamlining" a well understood technique.

OpenStudy (dayakar):

to understand u must learn various methods

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes, technique = method :-)

OpenStudy (dayakar):

adopt which is useful

imqwerty (imqwerty):

@jango_IN_DTOWN 1st book- http://goo.gl/LwXcjI

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

My favourite book is Euclid's Elements

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

interesting question, well i won't say i like some book and dislike other as most of them are text books to learn it, mean while a book need more than just things to learn to be inspired from, even Abstract algebra not my favorite topic in math but i liked "Gallian_J._Contemporary_abstract_algebra__2009" book as it have some good quotes in t that sometimes inspired me at times i used to feel frustrated about exams. but i mostly like the books which defines math as it's a way to think and not only how to solve, that's why i rather pure math and logic with lovely addition of philosophy . How ever my favorite one " The Principles of Mathematics" by Bertrand Russell it's a good reference for foundation of mathematics also how to reasoning logically in philosophical way <3 <3

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I really like 'How to think like a Mathematician' by Kevin Houston. It's excellent for developing study skills, helping you to think logically and how to write Mathematics clearly.

OpenStudy (cal.lavender):

seriously????Like math book?I hate maths

OpenStudy (aaalive):

|dw:1448458159960:dw|

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

@welshfella i like that too!
