Alexander did many things and left a lot. He helped bring western civilization which included the scientific and liberal one of the Greeks to much of the rest of the world. He introduced a study of science for science's sake to the nations. He uplifted the status of ordiary human beings to the members of a polis-citizens as opposed to subjects. He spread uranization and liberalistation to many parts with his foundation of many cities(all of them called Alexandria) to much of Asia. He introduced the idea to the Greeks and Maceodonians the idea of tolerance. That a Persian or any other race could be the equal of a Greek or Maceodonian and participate equally in a mature government. Before that most Greeks and Maceodonian felt as Aristocle felt. That barbarians, particularly easterners and most particularly Persians were menial, vile, treacherous and degenerate human beings fit to be only slaves of the Greeks. When he had passed this way there was , by a combination of intergration, his own authority and stats, the intermarriage with Asians and the appointment of Asians to offices, there was a change in the attitude of a lot of Helenes. He built cities, encouraged the study of science and knowledge, civilized great parts of the earth and strengthened western civilzation. He brang for a time east and west together. It has been said that East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet. But if Alexander the Great had lived long enough, this line might very well never have been written. Before Alexander this world was a mesh of comparitively isolated and insular empires. After him the empires were not so insolated and insular. They worked together more than before. Trade routes opened and empires talked to one another. The silk road expanded. You had the Chinese trading with the west. You had diplomatic intercourse between nations. You see, Alexander had a vision of a world ecominicus. A dream to bring this world together. To rule from sea to sea and give mankind the benifits of an advanced and enlightened civilization. He taught this world to look upon itself, encouraged humanity to cooperate and started the concept of a one world government and the unity of human kind. Of all the subsequent empires who dreamed of universal empires-the dream started with him. He taught the earth to know itself. And off course Alexander left a military legacy that every general from Pyrrhus, through Scipio Africanus, Julius Caesar, Ghenghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte to every modern general seeks to emulate. To be forever victorious and to fight with such efficiency and skill as to be envied. He is looked up to by all military people and many many others. Together with Sun Wu Tzu he is one of the two paragons of military science and the art of war throughout history. For about the only people who don't respect and admire Alexander are the Persians. It was their empire he conquered. Many other people have stories and legends about him and hold him up great. He not only conquered, but built and taught. He taught man tolerance and maturity. He set this planet on the path to know itself. No wonder his is so respected throughout history. He stands above most generals and rulers, almost alone. The awesome, wonderous and legendary Iskander-Alexander the Great. Hope this helps. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071126171157AAkYD0W
