Why does Lasik eye surgery use lasers? What can you say about the wavelength of light used in eye surgery?

My guess is simply because of its very small wavelength and that the surgery requires very high precision.

I think it's also because the intensity of the laser can be set to a constant value that is just enough to burn through the top layer of the eye lens without being jolted and without piercing too far. Also, the machine is pretty steady. Can you imagine if you had someone with blade trying to cut it? Oops, my hand jerked and cut through your eye. Yeah, not pretty!
