Consequences of Hamlet's revenge Revenge is a significant motive in the Hamlet play. In this play, the protagonist devotes his time and energy to avenge his father's untimely death. This revenge slowly begins to consume him in his entirety leading to his ultimate demise. Revenge is also an overarching theme in Hamlet, which brings the madness and death of young Hamlet. This revenge causes him to become mad. After an apparition appears to inform Hamlet of the murder of his father, Hamlet dedicates his life to seeking revenge. A thoughtful and rational character, Hamlet decides to seek the perfect way to get revenge. However, in his quest for vengeance, Hamlet turns mad. "But it will be an act- it won't be real." (1, 4, 8). He believes that his act of revenge is superficial and just a plan. He does not realize that he has lost grasp of reality and it is apparent with this statement that he is delusional. Hamlet determines that he will show Claudius that he is unaware of the murder and waits for Claudius to make a mistake. "They think I am crazy. But I am only crazy some of the time."(2, 2, 14). This is significant because he is in denial that he has not gone mad when everyone can see that he has. Secondly, Hamlet's revenge leads him to destroy his previously peaceful life. Just as he lost his love with Ophelia, he lost his mother's respect. "Now where is the face that I kissed so often? Where are the jokes that everybody laughed at?"(5, 1, 39). This quotation is significant because Hamlet is asking the people who love him why things were awry. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet is a good man who thought that his uncle is good-hearted until he finds out that his uncle is his father's murderer. From that point on, he decides to get revenge. "But I have a bad feeling in my heart about all this."(5, 2, 42). This quotation is important because Hamlet thought it was bad to kill, but after learning that Claudius was his father's murderer, his perspective changed to exacting revenge. Ultimately, Hamlet loses his life to get revenge on Claudius. "I don't need much time. A man's life is no more than one touch with a sword."(5, 2, 41) In a final battle at Elsinore, Hamlet gets cut in his hand with a poison-tipped sword during a fight with Laertes. Even though he is dying, Hamlet finds that last ounce of energy to kill Claudius. "No medicine in the world can save you. You have less than one hour to live."(5, 2, 44). Even though Hamlet was mortally wounded and did not have much time left to live, he found energy to kill Claudius with the poison sword. In conclusion it proof that all the thing happen only due to get revenge like Hamlet dies as a result of his quest to find vengeance. Although he is successful in killing Claudius, but as a result he loses his mind and his life as well as. Revenge is the theme of the Hamlet play. Revenge starts off the play and ends the play as well.
