There are 15 cards numbered 1 through 15. What is the probability that you choose a 5 or a 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P (choose a 5 or a 9) = P(choose a 5) + P(choose a 9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to work out what the probability that you choose a 5 is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got th answer

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

2/15...would be the probability

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome :)

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

need help with anymore

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

Michelle draws a card from a standard deck of 52 cards. She replaces the card and draws a second card. What is the probability that she draws a heart and then a spade? [Note: There are 13 each of hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds.]

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

hang on I am figuring it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So first you need to work out the probability of drawing a heart

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P(heart and spade) = P(heart) x P(spade)

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

Okay so you have 52...13 of each kind of card...so 13 multiplied by 2 would be 26...so it would be 26/50 and then you have to simplify it...

Michael has a drawer with 8 pairs of black socks and 12 pairs of white socks. Without looking he takes a white pair of socks out of the drawer. What is the probability that the next pair he takes out is black?

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

13/25 for the last one...not the one you just posted

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

add the 2 numbers together

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

8+12=?

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

can you tell me what 8+12 is please?

OpenStudy (adelyn_helps):

okay its 20...so it would be 8/20 simplified would be 2/5...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@adelyn_helps that's not quite right. Replacement didn't occur - so only 11 white socks are in the drawer
