The Grandfather Clause was a statute enacted by many American southern states in the wake of Reconstruction (1865-1877) that allowed potential white voters to circum vent literacy tests, poll taxes, and other tactics designed to disfranchise southern blacks.

so would the answer be Clauses which southern states included in their legislation which allowed a person to vote as long as his ancestors had voted prior to 1866.
