OpenStudy (karolynxx):

A sequence is defined by the formula f(n + 1) = f(n) – 3. If f(4) = 22, what is f(1)?

OpenStudy (freckles):

what does f(n+1)=f(n)-3 say in words?

OpenStudy (freckles):

like call f(n+1) a term we are looking at then again we said f(n) is it's previous term so in words this is actually saying?

OpenStudy (karolynxx):

Its multiplying a ratio?

OpenStudy (freckles):

it is saying that you can a term by taking it's previous term and subtracting 3 right nothing about a ratio

OpenStudy (freckles):

so if you want to find the previous term given the term then you would do term+3=previous term |dw:1447310720319:dw| so how do we get f(3)'s value

OpenStudy (karolynxx):

I would -3?

OpenStudy (freckles):

you would subtract 3 if you were trying to find the next term but you are trying to find the previous term so you add 3

OpenStudy (karolynxx):

so f(3) =25

OpenStudy (freckles):

|dw:1447310808622:dw| add 3 again to find f(2)
