OpenStudy (jacob902):

What is the slope of the graph shown below?

OpenStudy (jacob902):

A. -2 B. 1 C. 1/2 D. 2

OpenStudy (hlares):

From the multiple choice answers you gave, the answer would be A: -2. The reason why that is is that the slope of the graph is downward sloping and that means that the graph has a negative slope. Even if there were other negative answers, when looking at the graph, notice where the x-intercept is: at about (-1/2,0). Now, if you move one unit further to the right - that is, to (1/2,0) - you should see that the line is then two units below that space. Thus, going by the formula rise over run (rise/run) for slope with your rise being -2 and your run being 1, the answer would be -2.
