How does the author want the reader to feel while reading "The Cask of Amontillado"?

Allow me to throw in my two cents.

"The Cask of Amontillado" is emphasizing anger and vengeance. The narrator doesn't give detail or any indication of the vile acts done by the other character. (Can't recall the character names, but I do remember what happens.)

The character keeps talking about how the he deserves to have vengeance for the wrongs done towards him. 

Analyze the tone of how he speaks. Also, take note of how vague he is at times. This leaves the reader not only in suspense, but the reader has no choice but to trust what the main character is saying. There is no two sides of this story and there is not much of a way to tell what was done here. (The "injuries" done towards him)

We know there is something not right with the main character.

 Seriously. 

I am not sure if he was not hugged enough growing up or he ate too much "creepy-o's" for breakfast. Either way, the reader is left with what the main character is telling us in the story. He won't say what was done. But he will say he deserves his revenge.

With all that in mind, reread the story. Pay attention to detail and maybe you might pick up a few things you missed. I know reading Edgar Allen Poe's work can be a little difficult. Just try your best.
