Giving Lessons: Solving One-Step Equations (Solving For A Variable)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Before I begin I would just like to say that some might find this not helpful, but some might. So if you already know how to complete one step equations and solving for a variable… I am sorry if this feels a bit slow for you, but some people do not know how to solve for x and I really want to help them out. Either way… I tried so I hope you find this helpful and enjoy! Alright, so the sample equation we will be using today is: \[m - 9 = -13\] So in this problem we will be solving for m. Now the first step is top get all the numbers that do not have a variable attached to them and that are NOT a variable to one side. Then, all the variables will be on the other side. So we are going to add 9 to bother sides. When we do that, the -9 will cancel out with the 9 that we have added on the left side… and the -13 + 9 will become -4 on the right side. So the answer would be m = -4! Yay! We did it! \(\color{purple}{{Still~Confused?}}\) Don’t worry! I am going to do one more sample problem of you guys! Alright, so the last sample equation we will be working with today is: \[-6 = \frac{ b }{ 18 }\] Okay, so this is a little weirder and may look a bit harder, but it really isn’t. Okay so once again… the first step is top get all the numbers that do not have a variable attached to them and that are NOT a variable to one side. Then, all the variables will be on the other side. So to get 18 out of the fraction and separate 18 and b we have to multiply 18 on both sides. When we do this, 18 on the right side will cancel out with the 18 we are multiplying and -6 x 19 will become -108 on the left side! That’s it! So the answer is that b = -108! See? It was really easy! \(\color{purple}{{Still~Confused?}}\) If you are still confused now then just comment down below your One-Step Equation problem that you want me to solve… or any question you have on this lesson and I will help you out! Thank You For Reading Everyone! Hope This Helped! I Tried! \(\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\) \(\color{yellow}{\bigstar}\) \(\huge\color{yellow}\smile\)

@DanJS @Vocaloid @Directrix @johnweldon1993 @phi @TheSmartOne @triciaal @Whitemonsterbunny17 @zepdrix @miracrown Hello Guys! This is another one of my lessons. You guys are really smart so this might not help you guys... but I tried :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Good job! :D

OpenStudy (shamil98):

i don't understand it, could you go over another example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure! shamil98

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give me a moment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By the way thanks! @TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright @shamil98 Now lets work with another example. The problem we will work with now is: \[-126 = 14k\] Alright, so we need to separate 14 and k. Since it is 14*k then we have to divide to get it separated. So we will divide 14 from both sides. The 14 that we are dividing will cancel out with the 14 on the right side. Then, -126/14 is -9. So the answer would be k = -9! Hope this helped!
