-7/3n=-42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply -7/3n by 1/-7 and do -42 by 1/-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u explain how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then all you have to do is divide by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/-7*-7/3n=3n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-42/1*1/-7=1/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 1 is understood

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\dfrac{-7}{3n}=-42\]\[-7=-42*3n\]\[3n=\dfrac{-7}{-42}=\dfrac{1}{6}\]\[n=\dfrac{1}{18}\]

There are a couple ways to solve for (-7/3)n=-42. Like the plant problem, you can convert both (-7/3) and 42 into fractions with the same denominator. Another way is to multiply both sides of the equation by the the fraction, but with the numerator and denominator switched around. Thus: (-7/3)n=-42 (-3/7)(-7/3)n=42(-3/7) 1*n=(-126/7) n=18 Also, I meant to mention this before, but as a tip, when writing fractions put the fractions into parentheses so they are easier to differentiate from other variables or numbers. For example: (4/5)x or 8(2/3).
