How do I solve this? Just show me your steps please. Don't try to explain it because I won't get it. I understand better by seeing steps. |3c-6|≥3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if it was: |x| = 3, how would you solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-3 or x=3 right? @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct, now the same concept applies, 3c-6 = 3 or 3c-6 = -3; what is c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c=3 or c=1? @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3c= 9 or 3 c = 3 or 1 ... very good, now we just have a direction thing to worry about any ideas on how to adjust for that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No idea. remember it is ≥ @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

right, now we should know that say: |-4| > 3 so all values to the left of 1, and all values to the right of 3 should adjust for it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a number line is a good visual if you need more thought to it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is where I get lost... I'm not sure what to do and when i should use a greater than or equal to sign or a less than or equal to sign. @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

<----|------|-----> 1 3 compare values that are clearly in a partition 0 2 5 <----|------|-----> 1 3 if the value makes a true statement, the partition is true |3*0-6| >=3 is true |3*2-6| >=3 is false |3*5-6| >=3 is true T F T <----|------|-----> 1 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the partitions define the values that will either make a true or false statement, so we can simply try a value and test it out to confirm of a partition is good or bad for us
