how do kilograms and kilometers differ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A kilometer is a length. There are 1.6 km in a mile. A kilogram is a mass. There are 2.2 lbs in a kilogram. You cannot convert a kilometer to a kilogram. khdmdcm is an acronym for the metric prefixes, which by the way are all small letters. Capital letters mean different things. M is mega- and m is milli-. k- kilo = 1000 h- hecto = 100 da- deca = 10 m = 1 meter (this can be g, s, L or any other metric unit) d- = deci = 1/10th c- = centi = 1/100th m- = milli = 1/100th When I teach it, I use the ladder. To go up the ladder divide 10's and to go down the ladder multiply by 10's. To convert 0.274 kg to mg you are going 6 steps down the ladder. Start at k and go down to m, so multiply 0.274 by 10 six times, one for each step. You can multiply it by 1000000 (note the SIX zeros) and get the same answer. If you are really "lazy" type: convert 0.274 kg to mg into Google and it will to it for you! Source(s): http://sciencespot.net/Media/metriccnvsn2.pdf
