If you mix CuSO4 (CopperII Sulfide) with hydrogen peroxide inside a glass and then stick a balloon on top for it to blow up, the reaction will have air and oxygen as a gas result. What is another small amount of gas that will be inside the balloon?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

@chmvijay

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what would expect it to be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what gas besides oxygen would come from the mix? :) Besides air that got trapped in the balloon before attaching it to the top of the cup.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what gas could expect from that reaction can u tell me ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, no I have no idea. Sorry.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

its copper sulfide or copper sulfate ?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

copper sulfate

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

@chmvijay i am so confused what the products are formed ?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

i think SO2 gas may form in little

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

can you write whole reaction ?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

i am not sure just a guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hydrogen i guess

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Copper(II) sulfide is CuS, not CuSO4

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I dont think hydrogen peroxide will react with copper sulphate but it would react with copper sulphide.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I think some sulphur dioxide will be present in the gases
