A triangle can be formed with side lengths 3 in, 5 in, and 9 in. True False

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

That's the triangle inequality.

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

Test for each: a = 3 in , b = 5 in , c = 9 in a + b > c a + c > b c +b > a if it's true for all , then you can form a triangle with this lengths if not, the triangle sides will never intersect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So its False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TrojanPoem

OpenStudy (welshfella):

a + b = 8 and c = 9 so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its true

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no a + b < 9 and we require a + b > 9

OpenStudy (welshfella):

understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! Thank you!!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yw

OpenStudy (welshfella):

all 3 of inequalities mentioned earlier must be met. IOf not its not a triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its not a triangle it looks nothing like a triangle to me

OpenStudy (welshfella):

if you try and draw it you see that thers no way the sides of length 3 and 5 can meet to form a trianggle
