Why don't OS choose Amby's based on User's vote ?
I agree Ppl shuld elect their representatives. Mods should also be chosen like this.
me too agree :)
I agree :D It's good to know other people opinions, that way, they can come up with a reasonable decision :3
This way we wont have fights or regret about other mods then the final decision must be taken by preetha n other mods :)
What if mods select few users and let users vote for the amby ?
ambi + mods
what about like a button, with 'yes' or 'no' then the name of the amby or mod, and the user has to choose?
\(\sf Why\ don't\ OS\ choose\ Ambies\ based\ on\ User's\ vote ?\) A group of mods are already voting which of the applicants is okay for the ambi position. They can choose better since they have the record of the users who applied. Pros: ~the opinions already commented in this post. My opinion: It's a good idea because mods will have an idea on how these users work with other people in this site :D Cons: ~Some of the applicants are not famous in this site. So if other users would vote for who will be the next ambi, there's a chance that these applicants won't be given a chance to become an ambi even though they deserve it. ~Not all users can be able to vote. Also, most of the newbies don't know about ambis and mods, so probably only users that have a certain SS can vote.
yeah, we need people o vote, however we should accept votes only from people that are not spammers or serious violators.
What if Users with Smart-score above 60 is only allowed ?
That would be more of a popularity vote :-/ and some users may then be chosen due to the fact that they get more friends from chatting rather than helping people. the users would also not have access to the candidate's past reports/suspensions/warnings. and what if those users from virtual schools decide to vote for that one user that had been handing out answers? candidate would also possibly try to accuse other candidates of rule breaking if they knew who each other are. if you try to put a smartscore limitation on who can vote, people will still complain that it would be unfair because then candidates could possibly suck up to such people idk ^_^" it's a bit difficult to understand how such a system would work with a whole new set of problems .-.
yes, because people with ss 60 mostly already know the rules.
elaboration: "candidate would also possibly try to accuse other candidates of rule breaking if they knew who each other are." in order to ruin the public reputation of that candidate and by "accuse .. of rule breaking" I mean, they can make things up such as accusing the candidate of forcing community suspensions with their alts (in such a case, mods can see whether or not it is true, but the public would still hate on the candidate due to a rumour)
No need to burst head.... Simple solution is... conduct the vote in 3 sections 1. General vote - everyone can vote. 2. Amby Vote- a chance for Ambys and the top 10 from general vote. 3. Mod Vote- a chance for top 10 from amby vote and only users above 70 SS. from the three sections, accordingly the admin panel and the users above 90ss can vote as er the required nos of Ambys.
We should not consider SS. It should be like users who have studied for more than 60 days on OS can vote.
awesome @Koikkara
if they can only vote from the applicant pool that have already turned in their IDs you might start off with being able to vote for 10 people... then by the time you get to the top, you might end up with one person that you are satisfied with eric's philosophy is that ambassadors don't have to be perfect when they are selected, but are willing to change for the better.
After the voting is done. Mods can discuss if the winners should be made moderators. If the winning candidate is alright for the mods then he should be made the moderator.
@imqwerty cool.... but we have users with multiple accounts who have used the accounts more than 4-5 months..
Moderators know which accounts are alts. So they can stop their voting rights.
becoming a moderator is a bit more of a jump I believe the current ways of choosing mods is fine since they mostly turn out great I think we are talking able ambassadors since recently the public seems to be disatisfiedwith them
@sleepyhead314 here we need a team, selected by users for amby.
I'm sorry if I'm not getting your points .-. just a bit foggy from sleep
@Koikkara ur main point is-->Why don't OS choose Amby's based on User's vote ? It focuses on user participation to elect ambassadors But you are saying to make a team
simple, we are not a democracy xD
^ exactly what I was going to say, until I scrolled down to see Jay said it already x'D
and Users are not Robots !
I'm a robot B)
But what @jigglypuff314 /@sleepyhead314 said, and what @Data_LG2 said, tells us that letting the general population of OpenStudy vote for their ambassadors, is not a good idea :P
The Founding Fathers didn't believe that a "common folk" would be wise enough to choose. This is why the electoral college was (and well, still is) elected from "nobles" (read this word in any way you want, as long as it is related).
I mean the senate... well, now the senate and the electoral colege
With the history of this site and the common forming of friendship groups and the quick gaining of approval simply through chatting rather than helping, it's best to keep the vote private with the mods and admins. There would be a huge popularity vote and not a lot of newer potential users (there is a 90 day requirement I believe) will have a big enough opportunity to become an ambie, and therefore become discouraged. We want to avoid bias as much as possible. Bias will always be present and I realize that, even within the mods, but we try to avoid and reduce it as much as we can and releasing a public vote would be a step in the wrong direction. I do believe that you guys should be able to choose who your new ambies would be, but understand that this is the better way to go. ~Chibi
^ Agreed, this suggestion would become completely biased. I can already picture people getting picked due to popularity, not helpfulness to the general community.
