OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, there it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is your question?

OpenStudy (hhopke):

What are the secant and cosecant? (sorry it took me so long to reply the website was glitching)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

using similar triangles you can prove that sec(x) = 1/ cos(x) and that csc(x) = 1/sin(x). (from the picture). in geometry, these relationships are usually just given without proof.

OpenStudy (hhopke):

Hmmm... we were told in class that secant is hypotenuse/opposite and cosecant is hypotenuse/adjacent. Same thing or no?

OpenStudy (hhopke):

I got the same answer I got before and it was marked wrong...

OpenStudy (hhopke):

1.266861583

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... hypotenuse over adjact is secant. hypotenuse over opposite is cosecant

OpenStudy (hhopke):

ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you remember the pic and go through and prove (once), you'll never forget

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good luck!

OpenStudy (hhopke):

Thanks!!! :)
