Biology Question because I can't find my book to look for the answer: Why does the arrangement of lipids on the inside of the cell membrane benefit the cell? (HINT: think about what it interacts with)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The arrangements of lipids in a cell membrane is important because the hydrophilic (water loving) end is out towards the water whereas the hydrophobic (water fearing) end is toward the center of the membrane. Also, being that the lipids are not tightly compact together some molecules that are small and do not have a charge (such as water molecules) can easily slip through them and cross the cell membrane without a problem.

Oh, also being that the lipids aren't tightly compacted they can move horizontally and sometime laterally also.

Oh wow, Thank you so much!
