a city council member wants to know her approval rating. Out of 38 people surveyed, 27 said they approve of her performance since she has been in office. Describe the sample and the population. sample: all residents of the city; population: 38 residents surveyed sample: 27 residents who approve; population: 38 residents surveyed sample: 38 residents surveyed; population: all residents of the city sample: 27 residents who approve; population: all residents of the city @directrix
I believe its sample: 27 residents surveyed; population: all residents of the city
This question is vague in that we have no idea where the surveyed 38 people were located or if they were chosen randomly.
that is all it says :/
Wouldn't the population be the city residents with the sample being the 38 people surveyed?
>>I believe its sample: 27 residents surveyed; 38 people were surveyed.
can you explain how did you get that? please
The problem says that 38 people were surveyed.
Now, I am dis·com·bob·u·lated.
Do we agree that this is not correct: A) sample: all residents of the city; population: 38 residents surveyed
sorry this is confusing
It is the lack of precision in the writing of the text author that is the problem. Not you. I'd like to say that the population is the city residents. I'd like to say that the sample is the 38 people surveyed.
ohh wait I got it
yeah you are right is B
I don't think the options are written correctly. Would you check your text?
yeah I checked and those were my options
At this link is a similar problem with options that are not parallel to the options of the problem posted here. http://openstudy.com/updates/54b7efd6e4b0eac13eb396cd
>>>>sample: 25 residents who approve; population: all residents of the city In the posted option D, is there supposed to be a 25? Shouldn't the 25 be a 27?
yeah thats the same quiz im doing right now except different numbers and I want to get the highest score possible :)
I understand that. Look at the question above your most recent post in this thread.
I think there is a typo in the posted options here.
yeah I noticed sorry
i just fixed it
can you help me check the rest of the questions?
@Directrix
This is what I would put for the answer to this flawed question: sample: 38 residents surveyed; population: all residents of the city
oh wow then I was wrong either way :( well I guess you learn from mistakes
>>can you help me check the rest of the questions? Where are they posted? Maybe I should look at them in the text.
Let's move to a new thread because this one is already too long.
yeah I agree lol
