OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

http://prntscr.com/96fll5 If triangle ABC is reflected over the y‐axis, reflected over the x‐axis, and rotated 180 degrees, where will point A' lie? (−1, 2) (−2, 1) (1, −2) (2, −1) I'm pretty sure it's either B or D, but not sure which one.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Interesting... Need help? c;'

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Just choosing between B and D. I've worked it out, but I can't figure out if the y-coordinate would be negative or not.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Wait, wouldn't it be B because I know the x-coordinate is negative..

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

First, do you know what a reflectio nis?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

reflection is*

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Yeah and I have the rules for the coordinate changes for each kind of reflection.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

these are all notes I took and the notes that are helping me do these questions: http://prntscr.com/96fo6x

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Reflection in which quadrant?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

I don't understand the quadrant things in these questions, isn't it just changing the coordinates from negative or positive or their order? I don't see what quadrants have to do with it.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Cause none of the answer choices mach my answer http://i.imgur.com/SBOL202.png

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Match*

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

If it's in quadrant 4 then yes It would be choice D

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Well there's two reflections and one reflection. Based on what I know and what I did, the answer should have a negative x-coordinate and I can't decide on a positive or negative y-coordinate. That's the only thing I'm having a problem with.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

See, I didn't think D that much because I figured the x-coordinate would be negative..

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

@TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

I dont want to give you a wrong answer ;-; sorry... hope my friend comes and helps you

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Apparently these questions are never as easy as they appear. It's fine, I understand.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so which quadrant would the figure be if we reflected it across the y-axis?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

it's in the second quadrant originally, right?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

yup

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

so a reflection over the y-axis would bring it into the... first quadrant?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

correct and then a reflection over the y-axis would bring it from the first quadrant to which quadrant?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

if it was basically re-reflected over the y-axis, that'd take it back into the second quadrant... but if it was reflected over the X-axis, it'd go to the fourth quadrant.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so now it's in the fourth quadrant and we're rotating it 180 degrees around the origin, so which quadrant would it be in? :)

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

that one I'm going to need a visual for. I'm not good with imagining rotations.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

wait, would it be back in the second quadrant? I think...

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

yup

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

okay, so the A' coordinates have to be in the second quadrant, then?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

so it'd be B, right?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):
