TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
ok, first let's find the slope :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3x / 1y ?
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
\(\sf\Large Slope = \frac{\color{blue}{y_2}-\color{red}{y_1}}{\color{green}{x_2}-\color{purple}{x_1}}\)
Where the two points are in the form:
\(\sf\Large (\color{purple}{x_1},\color{red}{y_1})~and~(\color{green}{x_2},\color{blue}{y_2})\)

what is that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohh nvm, its 3, -1 and 6,1
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
the point is (3,0) and (6,1)
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
so, what would the slope be? :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1/3

3/1 or 1/3
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
now, what is the y-intercept?
look for where x = 0, and y crosses the y-axis
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y-intersept = -1?
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
correct! :D

:D

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
so now we plug it into the slope-intercept form :)
y = mx + b
we got m = 1/3
and b = -1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
so what do you get? :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1/3*6+-1 = 1?
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
not sure where the y and x ran away
we have to keep y and x
and only replace m and b
y = mx + b
m = 1/3
substitute that in and we get:
y = (1/3)x + b
b = -1
plug that in :)

ok so its y = (1/3)x + -1? for the answer?
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
almost there :P
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
1/3(x) + (-1) = (1/3)x - 1
so your final answer is y = (1/3)x - 1
