Division of Fractions. Check Comments

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2 \frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\div3\frac{ 1 }{ 7 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Improper fractions are as follow: 5/2 22/7

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

First, find the numbers mixed, so improper fraction, then flip the second number and multiply.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

turn to improper fractions (5/2) / (22/7) when dividing fractions, flip what you are dividing by, then multiply 5/2 * 7/22 = 35/44 ** make sure you flip what you are dividing by, and not the other number

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

so 5/2*7/22

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

did that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LCD is 22?

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

yeah

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

when multiplying/dividing fractions..you do not need a common denominator

OpenStudy (nkhanfar):

Is that it?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

only when adding/subtracting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 5 }{ 2 }\times \frac{ 7 }{ 22}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just multiply across?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

just multiply straight across (5 x 7) / (2 x 22)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Including the denominators?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 45 }{ 44 }\]

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

35/44

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, typo.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you understand ? any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):
