Calculate the G.P.E. in joules of a 675 newton climber at the top of a 3,050- meter mountain in Colorado.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

GPE = FxH F= weight = 675N H = 3050m multiply them for GPE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand that now, but where it says to calculate it in joules is confusing. The G.P.E is 2,058,750. Is that the Joules or do I need to convert this answer into joules

OpenStudy (mrnood):

what is the definition of 1 Joule?? (you have Newtons and metres in the calculation....)

OpenStudy (mrnood):

So - do you have the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I think. 1 joule = 1 newton meter, so it would be 2,058,750 joules

OpenStudy (mrnood):

yes - or just over 2 MJ (megajoules)

Thank you so much.
