For a straight line, use Slope-Intercept Form. y = mx+b y is the line. You're trying to manipulate the equation on the right side to make the line [y] look like how you want it. m is the slope. If it's a fraction then think of it as rise/run (rise over run). b is the y-intercept. Your slope [m] is 1/4 so thinking of it in terms of rise over run, you would go up one and to the right four. Your y-intercept [b] is where the line touches the y-axis, or the vertical line. It can be gotten from the plot point (0, -4). You know how plot points are (x, y) or (where it is on the horizontal line, where it is on the vertical line)? So that means the point is at 0 on the horizontal axis, and touches the vertical axis at -4. That means the y-intercept is -4. Now fill in the equation by putting those together and there is your answer :) if you need a visual representation of it, type it into a graphing calculator or show me you understand by posting the equation and I can upload a pic of what it should look like.
