OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

How is this answer correct? 1. 2 – 11x^2 – 8x + 6x^2 A. [x] -5x^2 – 8x + 2; quadratic trinomial B. -5x^2 – 8x; quadratic binomial C. -6x^2 – 8x – 2; cubic polynomial D. -6x^2 – 8x + 2; cubic trinomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2-11x^2-8x+6x^2\]can be simplified by combining the x^2 terms:\[2-5x^2-8x\]By rearranging the terms:\[-5x^2-8x+2\] It's quadratic because the highest power is 2 (highest exponent) and it is a trinomial because there are 3 terms.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

simplifying 1 gives A -11x^2 + 6x^2 = -5x^2 and the +2 is retained
