What is the advantage of repeating the syntax of the initial clause "it was the..."?
A). The monotone creates a feeling of disaster B) The parallel words make the reader confused C) The pattern suggest that music will be used D) The repetition creates a comparison/contrast theme
Please help me, I've been stuck on this for 20 minutes :(
Anyone?..
Which one do you think it is?
D
That's correct! Great job, welcome to Open Study btw.
Thank you!
If that's the only question you have make sure to close it :)
Thank you!
No problem
I have one more. Are you familiar with the Helen grey poem?
Yeah, what's your question?
Which line from Helen Gray implies Helen is not as exceptional as she may think? A. But so you miss the modest charm B. Come down, and take lowliest place C. Then in their turn will men seem cold D. When you yourself are nipped and grey
Do you have an idea of what the answer is?
I don't quite understand the language.. But.. I'd have to say A?
Okay, do you want to start by taking out the ones you know are wrong?
Yes please
Ok, so let's review the wording that was used... are there any words in the answers that you don't know what they mean?
No I understand all the words, they are just placed weird to me lol
Sometimes what I do to help me understand shakespeare or old poems where the wording is weird, I try like restating it in a different way. For example, B. Could be " be more humble" or C. Others will seem mean Something like that...
Do you want to do that for A and D? or do you get them?
I understand it now :) and thank you for the advice!
Yeah, no problem. Hope this helped.
Would the answer be C ?
I think that at the end of the poem "Then in their turn will men seem cold, When you yourself are nipped and grey." She is saying the world/people will seem mean if you treat it/them like they are or if you are mean. So it might be the last line. ( C or D ) what do you think?
D?
I think so. That line makes it seem like it's her fault that she sees the world like this, therefore she isn't exceptional. Do you think it means something else?
I'm not sure :(
I want to say it's D. I can't be positive....
@pooja195 @ParthKohli Can you guys help with this question?
Or anyone else xD
Could you help me with one more?..
Sure.
"When race of wind is stilled and sails are fueled, and underneath our single-light " How do these lines develops the theme of the poem? A. They create tension between action and inaction. B. They imply the growing darkness of death C. They suggest the end of an active life D. They support the metaphor of sailing
Furled ***
Do you have a guess to what it is?
B... Not 100% sure
Do you have the rest of the story or just that one line?
It's called "Evening" by Victoria Mary Sackville-West.
Let me read it. Give me a minute.
okay hun
Ok I read it, why do you think it's B?
I reread it and I believe it is A because its saying race of wind which is an action but the wind is stilled so that would be an inaction, right?
Yeah, you got it.
Are those all your questions?
yes :) thank you!
No problem.
