Emilio Aguinaldo VS Theodore Roosevelt Okay, so I've been stuck on this assignment for a long time now, so I think I should finally get some help. For this assignment, I'm supposed to write about two people of my choice with opposing viewpoints about the Spanish-American war. I chose the two people in the title, which may or may not have been a dumb decision on my part... So anyways, I can't figure out what to have them argue about. This assignment needs to be 3 pages long of pure dialogue, so what points could I have these two people argue about? Thanks in advance!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why dont you think up ideas about how they acted or there temper and whatnot. Sleep on it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did that help a little?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's up?

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

@abud1 Sorry, just saw your responses. This assignment is long overdue... so I don't have much time to sleep on it any more. Want to read what I have written so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure i guess

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

"ROOSEVELT Alright, Mr. Aguinaldo. State your thoughts… AGUINALDO Mister Teddy Roosevelt, we have fought together alongside possibly the most important war the Philippines will ever face. You are not just a war hero, you’re now the president of the United States. I… am honored to be here. ROOSEVELT Why, thank you, Mr. Aguinaldo. You are not an insignificant man yourself! But alas, you are opposing my position, are you not? AGUINALDO Yes, sir. In fact, I am appalled by the decisions your country has made after all that we have been through together, your country and mine. Your country has outright stabbed us in the back! Sir, after we were freed from the Spanish, how could you justify ripping our newfound freedom from us yet again? Not only did you stab us in the back, you also made me submit myself in the most degrading way possible. You made me tell a lie to make your country happy. You forced me to say that I stand for your country, despite everything it’s done to me... ROOSEVELT Hmm… I see your point, Mister Aguinaldo. And by “our country stabbing yours in the back,” I assume you’re referring to us taking away your independence in Malolos? AGUINALDO Among other things, yes, that is exactly my point, Mister Roosevelt. ROOSEVELT Are you suggesting that you are still unaware of the Treaty of Paris, young man? It is that exact document that answers all your questions."

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

How does it look so far? Historically accurate, at least?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The lines are good, just make it more... old timey, if you catch my drift

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

What do you mean by that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The lines look modern

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like what you have so far though!

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Do you think it's historically accurate? It's been awhile since I've studied this topic, so I dunno... and I still have to write 2 more pages :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah its good

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

I tried really hard to make it look like I know what I'm talking about lol... What else should I have them argue about? Also, I can't change the line format since this is how my teacher wanted me to write it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. How they helped and how exactly they were "stabbed in the back"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Spanish people.

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Well, Emilio Aguinaldo led the revolution in the Phillipines alongside the US, so that's how they "helped" each other. Aguinaldo was stabbed in the back because the US started another war with them right afterwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. Explain that some more to the readers/teachers. Remember your audience!

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Alright, good advice. That'll help me lengthen it too, so no problemo... But what other points can they argue against each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The war and how it taxed the spanish people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the way they are treated.

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

I was thinking of mentioning how Aguinaldo wore a black bowtie after he pledged allegiance with the US to mourn his country's loss of independence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when capture

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Huh? What do you mean by that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how they were treated when they were captured.

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Oh okay. Didn't the US treat them just as badly as Spain did? Didn't the US put them in concentration camps just like Spain did...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

didn't know that part. But yeah, include that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that it?

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Do you know anything about how the US treated the Spanish? Sorry, I can't tell what post you're replying to with "didn't know that part. But yeah, include that"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. sorry i dont. Look it up. I could only help with extending the dialogue. I did the best i could. Any Questions?

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Nope! Unless you've got any more ideas, then that's all the help I think I'll need. Thank you so much, by the way! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bye! Gotta go! Good luck!

OpenStudy (dinorap1):

Thanks for the medal and thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! Hopefully I get a good grade on this assignment... :)
