The fact that the man was unsuccessful for years is an example of situational irony. The fact that the man was looking for emeralds is an example of dramatic irony. The reader knows the stone is the old man, but the miner doesn’t. This is dramatic irony. The miner almost quits seconds before he was about to achieve his goal. This is dramatic irony.
