What is the correct order of a signal being transmitted across a neuromuscular junction? Arrival of end plate potential—acetylcholine release—action potential—binding of acetylcholinesterase to its substrate Arrival of action potential—acetylcholine release—end plate potential—binding of acetylcholinesterase to its substrate Acetylcholine release—arrival of action potential—end plate potential—binding of acetylcholinesterase to its substrate Binding of acetylcholinesterase to its substrate—acetylcholine release—arrival of action potential—end plate potential
I feel like the release of acetylcholine has to come first, but the rest of the steps in C don't make sense and the rest of the options just don't make sense period.
hang on.
Well when an action potential reaches the synaptic knob of a presynaptic neuron, it triggers the opening of calcium voltage gated channels. The influx of calcium ions (Ca2+) leads to the release of neurotransmitter that are stored in the synaptic vesicles. The neurotransmitter crosses the synaptic cleft to bind to ligand gated channels on the postsynaptic cell. This creates an end plate potential which may or may not trigger an action potential in the postsynaptic cell.
So, I think C.
That makes sense, thanks!
