I need some help with slope-intercept forms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is the question..

pooja195 (pooja195):

Find the slope first :) \[\LARGE \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=slope\] \[\LARGE \frac{-3-1}{3-1}=slope\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I found that the slope is -2, is that correct? If so what do I do next?? Thank you for helping.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

Good -2 is correct now we ahve y=-2x+b To find the b value just take one of the given coordinates an plug them into the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I take the x from one of the x coordinated too? Or no @pooja195 ?

pooja195 (pooja195):

-3=-2(1)+b solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, 1 would be B. -3=-2(1) + 1 @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

No -2 times 1 =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 + 1 would be -2. Oops. I am still not getting the correct answer though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

-3=-2+b add 2 to both sides -3+2=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So -1 would equal B

pooja195 (pooja195):

Yes

pooja195 (pooja195):

y=-2x+b <--- replace with -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Our equation doesn't show up on the multiple choice as one of the possible equations..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

Can you show me the choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

Slope is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oooh. Huh.

pooja195 (pooja195):

\[\LARGE \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=slope\] \[\LARGE \frac{1--3}{3-1}=\]

pooja195 (pooja195):

Find the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so the slope is positive 2.

pooja195 (pooja195):

Correct y=2x+b You can use either (x,y) point you want..the answer will be the same: (1,-3). y=mx+b or -3=2 × 1+b, or solving for b: b=-3-(2)(1).

pooja195 (pooja195):

Can you solve for b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B would be 5, correct? Or -5

pooja195 (pooja195):

Yes -5 is correct y=2x+b<---replace with -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so the answer would be D. y=2x-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! I got a 100%, thank you very much for helping me and not just giving me the answer. :D

pooja195 (pooja195):

yw ^_^
