Opinions needed! (Will fan&medal everyones opinion) (: What do you think of the use of standardized admission to higher education in the United States tests?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A standardized test is any form of test that (1) requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from common bank of questions, in the same way, and that (2) is scored in a “standard” or consistent manner, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or groups of students. While different types of tests and assessments may be “standardized” in this way, the term is primarily associated with large-scale tests administered to large populations of students, such as a multiple-choice test given to all the eighth-grade public-school students in a particular state. - http://edglossary.org/standardized-test/

I think it bs! I'm a senior, and failed a EOC 3 times,( passed the class) haven't taken it since my freshmen year though, if I fail it tomorrow I don't graduate... Not to mention what I'm going to school for after this has nothing to do with ALGEBRA!

Im so sorry :o but I hope for the best tomorrow on your test! Keep a positive mindset, and don't overthink your questions :( @sbuck98

Are you referring to tests like ACT or SAT?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Either one is fine @Nickbuns

I think it depends on how schools use them. On the one hand, GPAs aren't as reliable a measure of student achievement as they once were because of grade inflation. But standardized tests are biased against low income students, non white students, and non Christian students. I think in conjunction with other measures, like personal essays and interviews, they can be a good piece of the puzzle, but often higher education institutions put too much weight on ACT and SAT scores.
