OpenStudy (shaleiah):

@just_one_last_goodbye could I use SIN on my calculator to solve this?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Bible says SIN is against God... so please dont make the Calculator sin :)

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

@wolf1728 do you know which button I'm referring to?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Shaleiah To solve tat it has to be done in steps: I'd say first solve for the height by sine 30 = height/34 height = sine 30 * 34

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

By the way, if you need a trig calclator - here's a very good one. (It's my website I wrote it)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

http://www.1728.org/trigcalc.htm

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

I got 17 when i typed in my calculator

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

17 is right sin 34 = .5 and *34 it is 17

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

The "left" side of y also = 17

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

From Pythagoras, we know x^2 = 17^2 + 17^2 x^2 = 578 and x = ???

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

289

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Pythagoras says you're wrong if x^2 = 578 then x = ??

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

2?

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

578/289

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

the square root of 578

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

24.041

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yes !!! 24.0416305603

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

We need to solve for y cosine 30 = adjacent / hypotenuse adjacent = cosine 30 * 34 adjacent = ???

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

29.4448

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Do you know the cosine of 30 degrees (you may use my calcuator)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

cosine 30 = 0.86603 34 * 0.86603 = 29.44502 Very good !!!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

NOW to get "y" we have to add the left side and the right side to get ???

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

30.31105

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

hang on..

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

I had to switch modes on my calculator.

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Alright.... 17+29.44502=46.4 (rounded) :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Wouldn't "y" equal the "left" side 17 plus the right side 29.44502

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Very good !!

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Awesome. x=24.0 (rounded) y=46.4 (rounded)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

So, I guess the answer is "d"?

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Yes.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay, so I guess you are all set
