This is quite a read. Giving out direct answers isn't something I should be doing. But I can guide your thinking. While I try to read this and balance out other tasks, can you tell me what these reads have in common? Is there a common theme shared here? A moral lesson? Similar plots? Symbolism?
The common theme is that little things can make a big difference. The moral lesson between these two stories would be to be the change we wish to see in the world and how little things can make a big difference.
Both stories share symbolism and imagery
Good, how do they use the symbolism and imagery in a way that enhances the theme?
Is that exactly how the question is worded? I'm a little confused by the question and I've read both stories.
Okay, what part is confusing?
What are all the worlds being referenced? "These two different worlds" somehow influences the "real world" for the characters? Are they talking about the past world in SoT and his daydreams in SLoWM?
Okay, they are asking HOW they "not-so-real-" world is impacting the actual reality in the book. Think about The Nightmare on Elm Street.
Better yet, Freddy vs Jason
In Freddy vs Jason, we saw someone get cut in the dream and end up being cut in reality.
When Jason was in Freddy's nightmare realm, he was being drowned like he was at the camp.
We see in the reality that water is coming out from Freddy's mask.
How is the nightmare realm affecting the reality in the movie?
In the story a sound of thunder one example of symbolism was the butterfly which shows the fragilty of life. Another example is the sound of thunder which symbolizes drastic events or time being altered which is the theme of the story because they realize anything altered can change the present making a huge difference and in the secret life of walter mitty . As shown in all of his daydreams, he wishes that he was a great and powerful leader.
Right, but A Sound of Thunder is about people going back in time to hunt dinosaurs. There is no dream world. That comparison works for Walter MItty. I don't understand what this other world is they're referring to in Sound of Thunder.
the orginal question is Choose two of the other worlds described in the unit. Compare and contrast the ways these other worlds impacted the real world for characters. I chose a sound of thunder and the secret life of walter mitty thurber
I am not saying there is a dream world. You said what the question is asking was confusing. I tried to explain it by referencing a classic slasher film.
Okay, so in the thunder one you said it is about people going back to travel dinosaurs. They are going to the past. How is that impacting the present? Their actual reality they left to go hunt dinosaurs?
That makes more sense. That's why I wanted to know the original wording of the question.
Cool, so you get it now?
. Eckels, an avid hunter, pays $10,000 to travel back to the age of dinosaurs to hunt a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Time Safari, Inc., the time-travel outfitting agency, wants to make sure its customers understand the risks involved. They do not guarantee safety, relating the deaths of six guides and twelve hunters in the previous year. But they do guarantee dinosaurs and Eckels cannot refuse this trip of a lifetime. While Eckels waits his for his expedition to begin, he and a company employee discuss the recent election in which the democratic candidate Keith, the moderate presidential candidate, was elected over Deutscher, the dictatorial candidate described as an anti-everything man. The two suggest that if the election had turned out differently, many people would be running for the time machine just to escape Deutscher's rule. Travis, the tour guide, along with his assistant, Lesperance, leads Eckels and two other hunters, Billings and Kramer, into the time machine and they set off to a time 60,002,055 years before the time they left. When they arrive, Travis gives the hunters two specific instructions: shoot only the dinosaurs marked (they were going to die soon anyway) and stay on the path, which is made of antigravity metal that hovers above the ground. When Eckels asks why, Travis launches into an explanation of how changing the past could have a negative effect on the future: if one mouse is killed in the past, the families of that mouse will also no longer live, along with the animals that would have preyed on the mouse. This would, in turn, cause the animals that preyed on those animals to no longer live, compounding until the effect of the death of that one mouse could mean generations of people may no longer be alive in the present. With everyone sufficiently scared, they head out. As they anxiously wait for the T-Rex, the men hear 'a sound of thunder' - the footsteps of the dinosaur -and Eckels is overcome by the beauty and majesty of the beast. He decides he cannot shoot it. Travis, furious that Eckels has chickened out, tells him to return to the machine. Eckels, in a state of shock, moves the wrong direction, catching the eye of the dinosaur. As the T-Rex begins to come after the hunters, they fire and kill it. Upon returning to the time machine, Travis notices that Eckels' boots are muddy. He stepped off the path! Furious, Travis threatens to leave Eckels in the past unless he collects the bullets from the dinosaur, which they can't leave. He does so, but Travis still threatens to kill Eckels for disobeying the rules. Upon arriving back in 2055, Eckels notices that things are a little off. The air smells weird and the spelling of the company sign is a little different. Eckels looks down at his shoes and notices a butterfly stuck to the bottom, dead. In shock, he asks who won the presidential election and the employee exclaims that, thankfully, it was Deutscher. Eckels groans. Travis aims his weapon at Eckels and there is a sound of thunder
so im just wondering how to word or anwswer this question its worth 24 points like how the two stories i mentioned compare and contrast i just need examples.
Well, that shouldn't be too hard. An essay can be composed of four paragraphs. Introduction How are the stories similar How are the stories different Conclusion
That could be how you organize it.
But you'll want to focus on how the time travel affects the real world that Eckels comes from, and how Walter's daydreams affect his real world.
^^^Exactly what I was trying to say^^^
ok thanks so much ill type it up now!!
Good luck!
