Will medal! What is the intended tone of this paragraph? A. romantic B. playful C. serious D. tragic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Enjoy Nature! I am glad to say that I have entirely lost that faculty. People tell us that Art makes us love Nature more than we loved her before; that it reveals her secrets to us; and that after a careful study of Corot and Constable we see things in her that had escaped our observation. My own experience is that the more we study Art, the less we care for Nature. What Art really reveals to us is Nature’s lack of design, her curious crudities, her extraordinary monotony, her absolutely unfinished condition. Nature has good intentions, of course, but, as Aristotle once said, she cannot carry them out. When I look at a landscape I cannot help seeing all its defects. It is fortunate for us, however, that Nature is so imperfect, as otherwise we should have no art at all. (from Intentions by Oscar Wilde)

I'm not sure if it would be C or D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would guess tragic, as this piece is rather dramatic. However, it may be c. serious. I'm a bit conflicted on this one.

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

confusing one thou

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@bluediamond1999 I ended up going with serious , I think that was the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it's by Oscar Wilde, you can be guaranteed it's not serious or tragic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hope it's right! :-) @toriacx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@NickBuns Really?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@bluediamond1999 Well i ended up passing the test, it doesn't tell me specifically what questions are right or wrong but i passed ! (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:-D @toriacx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's playful. Oscar Wilde is usually pretty tongue-in-cheek. In this question he's playing on the idea that nature is beautiful and turning it around.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But grats on passing the test ;-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@NickBuns Wow i didn't know that thank you for the information ! , i'll know next time whenever i see his name and Thank you (:

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

@toriacx congratulation!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MTALHAHASSAN2 Thank you !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's good to know! :-) @NickBuns
