OpenStudy (anonymous):

A _______________is single strand of DNA wound tightly around proteins, whereas a ___________ is a segment of a DNA strand that tells the cell to make a specific protein.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

are there answer options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gene; histone Chromosome; gene Histone; gene

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

"Chromosomes are thread-like structures located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)." That's the definition for a chromosome - if you simplified it, it'd be exactly what your first defintion is ("single strand of DNA wound tightly around proteins")

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Different types of cells have different number of chromosomes. Body cells are ______, where every chromosome is part of a homologous pair in a cell. Gamete cells are _______where no chromosome is part of a homologous pair in a cell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Diploid; haploid Haploid; diploid Polyoid; haploid

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

I'm not done with the first question & you have to open another question if you want to ask another. Don't ask multiple questions on one topic.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

"histones are highly alkaline proteins found in eukaryotic cell nuclei that package and order the DNA into structural units called nucleosomes. They are the chief protein components of chromatin, acting as spools around which DNA winds, and playing a role in gene regulation." This one is bit harder to decipher if you don't have training in anatomy like I do, but it basically states that histones are proteins found in the nucleus and tell the DNA to order themselves into the structural unit of nucleosomes. Histones are the chief protein in chromatin and DNA will wind around them. They also play a role in gene regulation.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

A gene is probably the easiest one to understand. "Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the chemical information database that carries the complete set of instructions for the cell as to the nature of the proteins produced by it, its life span, maturity, function and death. Genes are the working subunits of DNA. Each gene contains a particular set of instructions, usually coding for a particular protein or for a particular function." Genes just tell the DNA what to do and how to form and what to form. Genes are the specifically coded instructions DNA needs to function properly.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

So your second blank is clearly a GENE But you tell me what you believe your first blank is according to what I gave you.
