OpenStudy (animecore1):

Which equation represents the graph of the linear function? A. y=-1/3x+1 B. y=-3x-1 C. y=3x+1 D.-3x+1

OpenStudy (animecore1):

OpenStudy (animecore1):

@baru

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D. y = -3 x + 1 The slope is -3 and the y intercept is +1.

OpenStudy (animecore1):

Thanks, you think you could help me with some more?

OpenStudy (dariusx):

take one dot for example (1;-2) (x=1;y=-2) then input it into the equations the answer is D

OpenStudy (animecore1):

Which equation represents the graph of the linear function? A. y = −4x + 4 B. y = −4x − 4 C. y = 4x + 4 D. y = 4x − 4

OpenStudy (animecore1):

OpenStudy (dariusx):

do as i told you, take one dot from the graph (x;y) then put x into the equations and see if it equals y

OpenStudy (dariusx):

(-1;0) for example input -1 into the equations and see where you get y = 0

OpenStudy (dariusx):

the answer is c

OpenStudy (animecore1):

where do i input the -1?

OpenStudy (dariusx):

into the equation put -1 instead of x

OpenStudy (animecore1):

oooh

OpenStudy (animecore1):

i feel stupid, i kept putting the -1 in the y

OpenStudy (animecore1):

I have just one more for you if you dont mind, i know how to solve the others but this one is different

OpenStudy (dariusx):

x is horizontal axis y is vertical axis a dot in the graph looks like this: (x;y) x on the left side and y on the right

OpenStudy (animecore1):

Complete the equation of the graphed linear function. Write the slope in decimal form. y = x +

OpenStudy (animecore1):

hold on wait

OpenStudy (animecore1):

y=____x+____

OpenStudy (dariusx):

take two dots from the graph here we have (5;0) and (0;4) an equation of a slope looks like this: y = ax + b your goal is to find a and b this is how we do it: take a dot where y = 0 which in this case is the second dot (0;4) from this we have: a*0 + b = 4 b = 4 then we take the first dot (5;0) from this we have: a*5 + 4 = 0 5a = -4 a = -4/5 = -0.8 and you're done. now input a and b into a slope equation y = ax + b answer is: y = -0.8x + 4

OpenStudy (dariusx):

by the way, it's not necessary to take a dot where y = 0, but if you can do that then you should because it's simpler this way

OpenStudy (animecore1):

That was an awesome explination! I've been stuck on these questions for 2 hours and now i get it, thanks so much

OpenStudy (dariusx):

no problem
