OpenStudy (chrisg094):

I need help with algebra

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

\[\frac{ 1 }{ y+5} - \frac{ 5 }{ y-5 } = \frac{ 14 }{ y^2-25}\]

OpenStudy (bemoseemo):

solve for y?

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

\[f(x)=\sqrt{12-4x}\]

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

the first one says Solve the rational equation

OpenStudy (bemoseemo):

second one is slightly easier xD but ok lets start and ill help ya work it through

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

then the last question i posted says, find the domain of the square root function and write it in interval notation

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

Okay thanks.

OpenStudy (bemoseemo):

In mathematics, an interval is a set of real numbers with the property that any number that lies between two numbers in the set is also included in the set. For example, the set of all numbers x satisfying 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 is an interval which contains 0 and 1, as well as all numbers between them.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[\frac{ 1 }{ y+5} - \frac{ 5 }{ y-5 } = \frac{ 14 }{ y^2-25}\]Can you factor the denominator on the fraction on the right hand side? I think once you do that, it will be easier to proceed. I would multiply both sides of the equation by \((y+5)(y-5)\) to clear the fractions. From there you should have no problem, I hope, but give a shout (and show your work) if you do...

OpenStudy (chrisg094):

I don't know how you would multiply that into the equation.
