OpenStudy (s.gracex):

What is the solution to the system of equations? Use the substitution method. 4x+2y=11 x-2=-2y A. (3, -1/2) B. (0,-2) C. (0,-11/2) D. (7,-5/2)

OpenStudy (igreen):

First solve for 'x' in the 2nd equation, then you can substitute into the first. Do you know how to do that? @s.gracex

OpenStudy (welshfella):

from the second eqution x = 2y + 2 Now substutute for x in the first equation and solve for y

OpenStudy (welshfella):

oops sorry x = -2y + 2

OpenStudy (welshfella):

so replacing x in the first equation by -2y + 2 we have 4(-2y + 2) + 2y = 11 can you solve this?

OpenStudy (s.gracex):

Do I need to combine like terms first?

OpenStudy (s.gracex):

@welshfella I think y = 1.5 or 1/2
