Help me set up the equation using only 1 variable

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

a cyclist travels 200km, part at 30km/h and the rest at 20km/h. How far does the cyclist travel at each speed if the trip takes 7.5h? Let x represent the distance traveled at 30km/h.

@SolomonZelman @amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

create your formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first find out what your x and y represents

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

Yeah but I can't create the correct one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well first find out what ur x and y and ur total are

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

Yeah but can we use 1 variable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well no because they do not represent the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30km/h and the rest at 20km/h

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

I understand that but there is a method to solve with 1 variable

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

using ur way its x+y=2000 and etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well sort of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and where did you get 2000 from

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

oh *200

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have to use a specific method?

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

Yeah using only 1 variable using a chart @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh
