Consider the following scenario, then describe how you might conduct a study using an SRS, convenience sample, and voluntary response sample. You are interested in parents' opinion of the war in Iraq. Your population is parents of high school students. Your question is, "Do you believe that the war in Iraq will lead to peace in the Middle East?"

why not look through the records in the school computer? then the computer can randomly pick out names by using a random number generator

For SRS, you would choose randomly from a small sample size. You basically ask about a 100 random people to participate in the study. For Convenience sample, you would pick people who are easy to reach. Like say, handing out brochures at the mall -- or something similar. For Voluntary sample, it's basically a first come, first served basis. People who self-volunteer first ends up on the study.
@Cardinal_Carlo keep in mind that the population we care about is the parents of high school kids. So if you were doing a convenience sample, then it's probably most convenient to hand out a survey to whoever comes into the office of the high school. Hopefully @xxImHisGirlxx you can see how this causes issues of misrepresentation.

usually with voluntary sampling, you have the extremes show up more than the core of the population
