First I would multiply by a constant 6. \[\frac{6(4y+5)}{3}=\frac{6(y-10)}{2}\] Now you can see something there goes out, and you get: \[2(4y+5)=3(y-10)\]Because 6/3=2, and 6/2=3. Now we want to get rid of the parentheses: \[8y+10=3y-30\] Subtract 10 \[8y=3y-40\] Subtract 3y. \[5y=-40\] Divide by 5. \[y=-8\]
