Write an essay of at least two to three paragraphs analyzing this newspaper remark from the Richmond Examiner. Use specific quotations from the Gettysburg Address to support or refute the newspaper's claim.
Am I supposed to write my opinion or ?? ._. I'm really confused..

By the looks of it i believe so, "Use specific quotations from the Gettysburg Address to support or refute the newspaper's claim." what this is saying is you are either for or against the papers claim. so your either going to talk about why you are for the claim or why you are against it. Does that make a little more sense? :)

i honestly dont know so i searched it up and this is what i found: kings and people of high stature are expected to give speeches in very grand language, using fancy words.
People believe that this fancy language suits the respect we give to these great people. However, Mr. Lincoln spoke in simple language and thus did not impress the writer. The writer thinks that Mr. Lincoln betrayed his social position by using plain language.

@Hayhayz this is what I have so far ._.
I disagree with the Article because, Abraham Lincoln still told us the importance of the Gettysburg Address. The Richmond Examiner wanted Lincoln to speak in magniloquent but, if Lincoln were to speak in a "magniloquent" manner, then his audience might have gotten lost and spent their time deciphering what Lincoln was saying rather than paying attention to what he was talking about in his speech, which was the whole point. Also, he would have probably sounded too wordy and lengthy, which also might take away from the meaning of his speech and the interest of his audience. "...We are met on a great battlefield of that war. ... It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion-that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth." It was easy to understand in my point of view and I am certainly pleased with The Gettysburg Address.

I would shorten the quote you are including in your sentence. You never want to have something THAT long. It'll "turn off" interest to the reader if you have something like that. I would try summarizing the quote. Write it in your own words, but make it have the same effect.

Over 152 years ago Abraham Lincoln gave the speech The Gettysburg Address. He spoke to his audience, in a way, which almost demanded that they keep fighting to end slavery. Lincoln was also able to convey that all men were created equal. He did this by usage of strong, powerful words. He used words like "consecrate," "nobly," and "vain." These words helped him convey his message, especially when he said, "that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain... " By having his audience in the “right” attitude, he was able to convey his important message to the people.
