Yeah, @Hoslos, you're right, but how? It teaches us about ancient fossils that may have been hard to identify if earthquakes weren't able to break down the ground. The rocks around the fossils can be examined to tell you how old that part of the ground is, or if there might have been a hole in the geological time scale.

That is because you may see plates at a very deep level moving.
Speaking on that, I would also like to add that the fact of volcanic eruption as a result of earthquake, makes us see that a very high temperature is found at the highest depths, as the lava cools and solidifies once reaches the earth surface.
