For number 13.) you would have to get n by itself. How would you?

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

would i first add the mixed number frations and then add n+5?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Not exactly, you wouldn't add them. In order to get n by itself, you would have to move 5 3/7 to the other side of the equal sign by way of subtraction

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

and that would make it 1 3/7

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Exactly! Since you subtracted the whole numbers and then the mixed numbers

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

ok

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Ill do one more with you, but then I have to go somewhere, sorry Which one seems the most confusing on your list?

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

thats ok and number 15

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

So we have two different denominators, one of them is 5 and one of them is 10. What we need to do is first, make them both the same. In most cases you see if the smaller number can be multiplied by a whole number to get the larger one Can 5 be multiplied by a whole number to get 10? If so 5 times what is 10?

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

5*2

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Correct! Now since the fraction was in terms of 5, we have to do the same to numerator So 5* 2 was 10, which makes 2 (The numerator) * 2 = 4, right? That gives us x+3(4/10) = 4(7/10) Now we wanna do what we did in the last step and move the 3(4/10) to the other side by way of subtraction

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

1 3/10 ?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yes, good work!

OpenStudy (scienceteen8):

ok thank you for the help
