Question

This is EXTREMELY important. Please allow me to fully write out this post. It may take me a few minutes, but I will finish it.

Alright, I know that I have made a similar post like this one before, but I really feel like I should write this out again.

OpenStudy is not only a teaching site, but a learning site as well. When there are people on here that just expect to be given direct answers and don't feel like they should take the time to be patient and have someone take the time to fully explain how to do a certain problem or solve a certain problem, that is on them, but that doesn't mean that someone shouldn't take the time to finish fully explaining something to someone, because someone else could come across that post and benefit from it. I hope I'm making sense so far.

When someone demands or asks for direct answers and the teacher gives them the direct answers, they are really messing with their education. It's extremely important to take the time to fully explain something to someone. You need to make sure that the student has a full understanding of what they are struggling with. If they aren't understanding what you are explaining to them, try to find an easier way to explain it them. Some students need to have clear instructions given to them so that they have an understanding of what they are doing. Even though you may understand what you're explaining to someone, they might not understand what you are saying, so explain it in a way that they are able to understand.

It goes both ways, the teacher shouldn't be giving direct answers and the student shouldn't be asking for direct answers. Some may be tempted to give the direct answers because they want a medal, but you shouldn't do that, take the time to explain a topic, don't rush for the medal. It isn't and shouldn't be about getting a medal, it should be about being able to teach someone something. You don't know how someone has such a high SmartScore, they could have gotten it from giving direct answers and could not know anything, you could have someone with a lower SmartScore and they could have a huge understanding of what they are doing, don't judge someone by their SmartScore.

I need to say that in the past I have given out direct answers or have asked for them, I now realize why that isn't appropriate. It does benefit you by being patient and taking the time to learn. Another thing, when you are giving your explanation out, make sure they have the understanding and ask them why they think an answer is the correct answer that they are choosing. If they don't have that understanding, explain it to them again.

This is the end of what I'm writing. It's obviously somewhat unorganized, but I was just writing out what kept coming to my mind. Also, I apologize for the repeating of my words and sentences that I did, that's always been a bad habit.

True that. Although we know nothing will really change. It as you said, it's been said before, quite a few times, but it never does end. Even if we stop the current population of the gimme answer people, more will join, and the cycle will start again. So, it is a good post, but I doubt it will do much.

I wouldn't expect it to do much, but the point is that I would hope it does something and that at least my point is out there and maybe some people will take it into consideration.
