Airline companies raise and lower their ticket prices based on the supply and demand. Due to high numbers of fliers, one company decided to raise their ticket price for a first-class ticket to $234, which represents a 4% price increase. How much did the first-class tickets cost before the price increase?
please help
Subtract 4% from the current cost of the ticket
234-4%=
No, that's not the right way to do it. Original price = \(x\) Original price + 4% = $234. \[x + 0.04x = $234\]Solve for \(x\).
Oops ur right my bad thx for correcting me
x would be the cost be for the 4% increase yes
We're trying to find a number where the number plus 4% of the number adds up to $234. We can't subtract 4% of $234, because that is a somewhat larger quantity than 4% of the starting price. This is also why when you lose 10% of your money at the blackjack table in Las Vegas, you have to make more than 10% on the money that remains just to get back to even.
Oh ok
Start with $100, lose 10% or $10, now you have $90. If you make 10% on that, you only only get $9, which leaves you at $99, not $100. Need to get a bit more than 10% (11.11...%) to get back to even.
Oh dang I see
Well thx for the minni lesson even tho its not my question
Well see ya
