OpenStudy (gigi1103):

What is the combined perimeter of these two rectangles? A) 6x + 14 B) 12x + 24 C) 12x + 26 D) 24x + 52

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

@heyyitspaige can you help on this one?

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

@salemlover352

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

@563blackghost

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

can you help?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yea I was just trying to understand what we gotta do ^^

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

lol k

563blackghost (563blackghost):

OK since its a rectangle that means the oppisite of the known part of the rectangle is the same.... so |dw:1450283188508:dw|

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So the equation would be \[((2x+7)+(4x+5))\times2\]

563blackghost (563blackghost):

This is for the first rectangle...

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

k

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So we first combine like terms.... so we add 2x + 4x and 7 +5....so what is the simplified equation?

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

6x +11?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Close its 6x+12 ^^ Now we must multiply by 2 to it....\[(6x+12)\times2\] so we multiply 6x by 2 or 6x + 6x and we multiply 12 by 2 or 12 + 12....

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

whaaaaa im lost now?

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

oh wait i get it

563blackghost (563blackghost):

ok good ^^

563blackghost (563blackghost):

sorry my internet is bad right now...

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So you figured it out?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

@gigi1103

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

yas its b right?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Incorrect...we want to know the "combined" peremeters which is of the two triangles so we only know of one and we need to know the other one and then we will add those two up....

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

ohhhhhh

563blackghost (563blackghost):

^^ to be honest I thought that too but i saw that it said "combined" and I had the exact response xD

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

lol

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So do you still need help or you can do the other part?

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

can you help me on the last part?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Sure ^^ now we know of the perimeter of the first rectangle which is 12x +24 now we need to know the other one.... so like said we will add both of the equations and then multiply that by 2...\[((3x+14)+(3x))\times2\]

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So we first combine like terms so 3x + 3x and 14 will left alone since it does not have any other terms like it.... \[?x+14\]

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

6x +14?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct ^^....now we need to multiply 6x+14 by 2....\[(6x+14)\times2\] so we multiply 6x by 2 or 6x+6x and we multiply 14 x 2 or 14+14...

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

so 12x and 28

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct again ^^....so we now we know of the total perimeters of both rectangles so now we need to add both of these....\[(12x+24)+(12x+28)\] So we first combine like terms so 12x +12x and 24+28....

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

so 38 +40

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Incorrect....try again ^^

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

24x qnd 52?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct! The equation of the combine rectangles is \[24x+52\] Great Job! ^^

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

thanks!!!

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Np ^^ Im glad I was helpful....if you ever need help in the future and see me on just tag me in your question xD (i think I have told you this before xD)

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

lol kk XD

563blackghost (563blackghost):

well byeee ^^
