You can investigate the x-intercepts by using the discriminant: \[\Delta=b^2-4ac\] Since a quadratic equation has the form \(ax^2+bx+c\) we can determine via the discriminant how the relative equations will vary and their x-interceptions as well, since the discriminant allows us to determine if they have one, two or no x-interception at all.
